Forums on Race & Our Community

The Western Mass RLC has grown in many ways in the past few years, but we still have a lot of growing left to do! One of our priorities is to explore diversity in our own community and particularly how we are or are not constructing our community to be accessible and welcoming to people of different races.

We want the RLC community to be different, and while we realize there are many barriers and things to learn, we want to keep that process moving forward. With that goal in mind, we are going to be scheduling focus groups at each of our centers between June and July. Each group will invite feedback and what has and hasn’t been working, and what we could do moving forward to make our community more open and welcoming to people of color.

The first two focus groups are scheduled as follows:

Monday, June 29:  4:30pm to 6:30pm
at the RLC’s Holyoke Center,
187 High Street, Suite 303, Holyoke

Tuesday, June 30:  2:30pm to 4:30pm
at the RLC’s Springfield (Bowen) Center
340 Main Street, Springfield

Forums in Greenfield and Pittsfield will follow in July.

**Anyone who attends will be thanked with a $20 gift card to a local supermarket.**

These focus groups are limited to 10 spaces each. The groups are open to anyone (including people who have regularly been a part of our community and people who have not taken part because they’ve felt unwelcome or there hasn’t been anything of interest to them), but we want to make sure people of color have access so some spaces in each group will be reserved for people of color.
